Like several other members of the firm, Robert began practicing law as a second career. A native of Virginia, Robert graduated from James Madison University in 1984. He elected to return to school to obtain his law degree after several years of sales and marketing with a family owned advertising firm, Fortune 500 company, and wholesale mortgage bank company.
Robert attended the Florida State University College of Law, where he graduated in 1995 with high honors and was selected to the Order of the Coif. While at FSU, Robert was a member and executive board member of the Journal of Land Environmental Law. Since receiving his law degree, he has remained active in supporting the College of Law, recently serving as president of the College of Law Alumni Association.
Robert's practice follows the principle focus of the firm, representing motor vehicle dealers on a variety of commercial and franchise matters. He has concentrated his practice in the areas of dealership mergers and acquisitions, dealer business planning, dealer succession planning, and corporate law. Robert has represented buyers and sellers of small rural dealerships as well as multiline auto mall operations, and has helped his clients on after-death dealer ownership succession issues. Robert has addressed dealers, accountants, chief financial officers, bankers, and consultants at numerous conferences on dealership mergers & acquisitions topics.
Robert is a member of the Florida and District of Columbia Bars. He is admitted to practice in the courts of those jurisdictions, as well as the United States District Courts of the Northern and Middle District of Florida and the District of Colorado. He is the author of Florida's Troubled Inland Protection Trust Fund: Common Law Actions as Alternative Remedies for an Innocent Buyer of Contaminated Commercial Land, 11 J. Land Use & Environmental. Law. 139 (1995).
Outside the office, Robert enjoys woodworking, reading and collecting books, light-tackle saltwater fishing on the nearby Gulf waters, and spending time with his two sons, Brentley and Kelton.
